In the Spring of 2011, I was spending most of my time working on the paintings for my Bright Lights in Big Cities show, but the transparencies that I was hoping to achieve were really dogging me. I was also working a day job at the campus library circulation desk of the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, with lots of time on my hands.  For some reason I had the urge to play with MS paint.  I figured that if could make the flat colours in ms paint start to imply space and build volume, I'd be way ahead when I got back into the studio and began working with real paint. These images started off as a sort of challenge and a kind of practice but I've kept doing them every once and a while, partly because of the strangeness of painting on a computer and partly because of the way they look.
